11/10/2009 - 7:00pm 11/10/2009 - 9:00pm ASMPNorCal presents Steve Whittaker and The Business of Architectural Photography
Architectural photography is certainly an art. From capturing photos with lasting visual impact to creating a marketing image for your clients, the creative possibilities are boundless. However, architectural photography is also a business, and one that requires constant attention. From estimating, licensing, scouting assignments, and creating the all-important shoot list, the success of your venture depends as much on your business acumen as your creative capabilities. Hand in hand with this goes project coordination, which includes issues such as security clearances, site preparation, transportation, permits, releases, and authorization. And once you have completed your preparations, this information needs to be conveyed to the client. Join us on November 10th when acclaimed Bay Area architectural photographer Steve Whittaker offers a series of business best practices including how to estimate a project, how to succeed in project coordination, and how to smooth the road from post-production to delivery. Steve will also cover business ethics, logistical preparation, and how to perform liability risk management for assignments. All in all, everything you need to know to succeed as an architectural photographer. So remember to join us for an interactive and highly informative session on November 10th. We'll see you there. Speaker: Steve Whittaker Based on the San Francisco peninsula, Steve started his studio in 1980 in Belmont and moved, in 1990, to Foster City, his current location. The majority of Steve's work is architectural, interior, and aerial photography. with clients ranging from architects, advertising agencies, corporate direct and hospitality. One of Steve's specialties is to illuminate the exterior and interior surfaces of a structure at dusk to offer a mesmerizing sense of transparency, depth and drama. This, along with other innovative techniques, continues to keep Steve at the forefront of this exciting field. An ASMP member since 1983, Steve was the Northern California Chapter Co-President in 1999-2001. Steve has also taught Architectural Photography at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco (between 1993-2001) as a part time instructor and expanded his reach outside of the Bay Area, lecturing around the county.
